Social emotional learning for elementary and middle school students

Imagine a classroom where students are empowered to: communicate, cooperate, connect, embrace diversity, and resolve conflict. At NUA, we emphasize citizenship and strong communication skills. That’s why our teachers have received training in the Sanford Harmony program, a social-emotional teaching program that cultivates strong classroom relationships between all students.

Harmony is usually implemented during students’ time for English oral language development with their English component teacher. Students use conversation cards to share in small groups and teachers lead games and activities. Sanford activities are designed to teach students effective communication, acceptance, and conflict resolution.
